Estudio para determinar la necesidad del aterrizaje de un nuevo cable submarino de fibra óptica en el Ecuador

Abstract

In this paper a study was conducted to determine the need of landing a new submarine cable of fiber optic at the coasts of Ecuador. The broadband market was analyzed in order to examine variations in both demand and offer, this with the need to obtain a pattern of behavior in the Telecommunications sector. Projections are made for the future growth or decline of the services that require connection to the international Internet backbone obtaining a quantitative approach of the capacity required in a time period of approximately 20 years which is the duration of a license under Regulation for the Provision of Submarine Cable Capacity. Additionally, the SAC submarine cable is elected as a future possible solution to reach these needs; diverse landing budgets are analyzed at different locations at the coast and to the main cities in Ecuador.
