Abstract: | Terrestrial microfungi were isolated from six soil samples from Punta Fort William, Greenwich Island collected during the Antarctic summer of 2008. The isolates were classified into psychrophiles or psychrotrophs based on their ability to grow at 4 ºC or 25 ºC, respectively. A total of 269 isolates were obtained and grouped into 6 genera: Geomyces (36,6%), Antarctomyces (26%), Thelebolus (12%), Mucor (24,2%), Mrakia (0,7%) and Cladosporium (0,4%). Among the identified genera, only Geomyces and Cladosporium showed growth at 25 ºC. Geomyces and Antarctomyces were the most frequent taxa. |
