dc.description.abstract	TESIS QUE ANALIZA LOS DETERMINANTES DE LA IMPORTANCIA RELATIVA DE LAS PEQUEÑAS Y MEDIANAS EMPRESAS (PYMES) EN LA INDUSTRIA MANUFACTURERA ECUATORIANA. PARA ESTUDIAR DICHO FENÓMENO SE UTILIZA DATOS DE PANELES BALANCEADOS PARA EL PERÍODO 1999-2001. LOS RESULTADOS OBTENIDOS, UTILIZANDO TANTO SU PARTICIPACIÓN EN LAS VENTAS COMO EN EL NÚMERO DE EMPRESAS, INDICAN QUE LA PRESENCIA DE EMPRESAS PEQUEÑAS ES MENOR EN AQUELLAS INDUSTRIAS MÁS INTENSIVAS EN CAPITAL HUMANO Y CAPITAL DE TRABAJO, SIN EMBARGO, EL FOMENTO DE INVESTIGACIÓN Y DESARROLLO LOGRAN QUE LAS PYMES ENTREN AL MERCADO AL NO EXISTIR UNA BARRERA DE ENTRADA PARA ESTAS.	es_ES
