The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of an extensive reading program
on the development of narrative writing skills in english as a foreign language at an
ecuadorian public high school. participants aged between 14 and 16 years old, with
an a.1.2 english level (based on the common european framework of reference),
from the first and second grade of the ecuadorian bachillerato, took part in this
project and were divided into two groups: experimental and control. in this study, an
extensive reading program was followed over a 6-week period. as a result an increase
of almost 52% was recorded by the researchers regarding the production of words and
written accuracy based on comparing pre- and post-intervention tests. accuracy
which was measured through we-cbm error tracking checklist; the most
commonly produced errors were related to semantics, syntax and punctuation marks.
